Road to Phandalin
Our adventurers found themselves banded together as an escort for a caravan of mystery goods from Triboar to Phandalin. The first night was spent discussing the relative merits of bears; how strong they are, different types, how they compare to deer etc. They sat around the campfire when an OWLBEAR made its way into the camp! With a exceptional poise, Mudd calmed the owlbear and let it go on its merry way. It would seem that his vast knowledge of bears extends to the owl variety.
After a couple days of uneventful travel, our adventurers encountered some ruins along their route. The main road was flooded and prevented the caravan from advancing. The gang scouted ahead to see if they could ford the path or if they’d have to caulk the wagons, when TWANG! Three arrows sunk into Erevan Stormwind, killing him instantly. HOBGOBLINS & WOLVES! After some arrows, a ball of fire, magic missiles, and a couple of broken walls, the adventurers found themselves one party member short (RIP Stormwind) and up two wolf pelts. After nearly losing a boot trying to walk along the flooded road, Noah suggested that the caravan go around the path.
On the final night before arriving in Phandalin,
Bruce Banner Bruenor Banner heard some noises in the nearby woods. He roused the rest of the party to investigate. As Ahbrar and Bruenor approached the woods, they made out three humanoid figures. “Trust me! They’re bad guys!” shouted Noah, as he shot a crackling beam of dark energy. Ever the contrarian, Mudd attempted to stop Noah and ended up being hit by the beam of energy (don’t worry, he can turn into a bear). Despite the party’s initial skepticism, it turns out that Noah was right and that the three figures in the woods were GHOULS! The adventurers made quick work of the evil creatures, then waited a minute while Bruenor and Noah recovered from their paralysis. Though they didn’t say it, Noah could see in the party members’ eyes that they were impressed by his quick action.
On the 5th day, our adventurers arrived in Phandalin. They were greeted by 6 red-cloaked figures, members of the Redbrand gang, who demanded that the party pay a toll of 90 GP. The party rolled on through, promising that the toll would be paid at a later date… probably. Upon delivery of the goods, the owner of Lionshield Coster commiserated about the trouble that the Redbrands were causing. She suggested that the adventurers speak with Sildar Hallwinter, as he too harbors ill-will towards the Redbrands. Sildar told the adventurers about some other bands of adventurers who had gone missing along with his partner, Rockseeker (it sounded quest-worthy). After the promise of 200 gold from Sildar, the party decided to take on the Redbrands at their base of operations, The Sleeping Giant Inn. The bartender at the Inn did not take kindly to our adventurers or their questions and went so far as to spit in their ales (which did not seem to bother Mudd). An off-color remark about the bartender’s mother lead the Redbrands in the Inn to draw their swords and the party to roll initiative. And this is where we left our adventurers, in the midst of battle at the heart of the Redbrands’ operation.
…Will they survive?
